Following her death, Nebbercracker completed construction on the house, because he knew that's what she would've wanted. However, Constance's spirit took control of the house, causing it to come to life. To ensure their safety, Nebbercracker put "Beware" and "Keep Away" signs on his lawn, and acted mean towards children who came near his house and confiscated their possessions so they wouldn’t dare come near the house again. Before they could drive away, however, the house makes a groaning sound to lure the two cops closer.

He then asks whether DJ is planning on trick-or-treating, to which DJ replies that he feels that he's too old for that activity. Jenny calls her mom about her encounter with the house, but is not believed. They fall into the basement and find a collection of toys accumulated from Mr. Nebbercracker's lawn, as well as a cage containing the body of Mr. Nebbercracker's wife encased in cement. Jenny wondered why Mr. Nebbercracker build a shrine if he murdered her. Chowder suggested that he felt guilty or something but DJ, determined to find our the truth knew that Mr. Nebbercracker was hiding something.
Running Time
They assume the house is inhabited by Mr. Nebbercracker's soul and that the only way to kill the house is to destroy its heart, its source of life. They conclude that the heart must be the fireplace, as DJ realizes that the chimney has been smoking since Nebbercracker's heart attack. That night, DJ has a nightmare where the house's shadow prepares to grab him and he wakes up when he receives phone calls from Mr. Nebbercracker's house with no-one on the other end. DJ eavesdrop on Zee's boyfriend, Bones, who tells Zee about losing his kite on Nebbercracker's lawn when he was younger, and that Nebbercracker supposedly ate his wife. DJ finds one of the house's windows blinds (the eyelids) opening up, DJ thinking that he is being haunted, prepares to investigate the house with Chowder's help. Upon reaching the crane, DJ uses it to swing over the house's chimney and throws the dynamite down to its heart.

DJ's caretaker, Elizabeth "Zee" arrives, and the two immediately squabble. DJ urges Nebbercracker to let Constance go on to the afterlife for the better. Nebbercracker is uneasy about this, stating that he’ll have no one if he lets her go, but DJ convinces him otherwise. Unfortunately, Constance's anger shoots through the roof upon overhearing their conversation; she turns two of the trees around her into hands and legs, uproots the house, and chases the four of them. He attempts to blow up his house with a dynamite, but Constance, having lost all reason and succumbing to her urge to kill, grabs Nebbercracker.

During the climax, as Constance tries to eat Nebbercracker, Chowder fights the house off with an excavator, causing it to fall into a pit. However, DJ accidentally desecrated Constance's remains by breaking the concrete casing that covered the corpse, revealing the skeleton and inciting the house's fury. The house then picks them up one by one after spotting the kids before they find the place to hide. The house had the slinkies snatch Chowder before doing the same on the pipes (organs) that snatch Jenny and had the wooden stairs attack DJ, who barely escaped back to the hall that turned into a mouth cavity, with his friends nearly devoured.
They conclude that the heart must be the furnace and Chowder provides a cold medicine-filled dummy that should cause the house to sleep long enough for them to douse the furnace. Police Officers Landers and Lister thwart their plan and they are arrested when Landers finds the cold medicine stolen from Chowder's father's pharmacy inside the dummy. The house then eats the officers and their car in which DJ, Chowder and Jenny have been shut. Nebbercracker's past goes back to his military career as part of a demolition squad (it is not specified in which conflict he participated but judging by the photographs and memories it must have been during World War II). Sometime after World War II, he was in a circus watching a performance about Constance the Giantess and fell in love with her. However, she was abused by the spectators and her manager locked her in a cage.

The following day, a girl named Jenny is out selling candy for homeowners to give to trick-or-treaters. DJ and Chowder see her approaching Nebbercracker's house and rush to warn her not to go near the dangerous building. When the house fails to do anything, the police officers conclude that the children were just playing a prank on them and leave. While Chowder deals with the house, the house grabs and shakes the excavator, causing Jenny to fall out of the excavator and into the lake, and knocks DJ into the lake as well.
They conclude that the heart must be the furnace, as DJ realizes that the chimney has been smoking since Nebbercracker died. Chowder provides a cold medicine-filled dummy (made from a vacuum cleaner and some other objects) that should cause the house to sleep long enough for them to douse the furnace. Officers Landers and Lester thwart their plan upon arrival and they are detained when Landers finds the cold medicine stolen from Chowder's father's pharmacy inside the dummy.
Nebbercracker arrives home alive, revealing that Constance's spirit is within the house and that he did not eat her but instead had given her some of the happiest times in her life. As a young man, he met Constance, then an unwilling member of a circus freak show, and fell in love with her despite her obesity. One Halloween, as children tormented her due to her size, Constance tried chasing them away but lost her footing and fell to her death in the basement.
